Korean-inspired Arita Ceramics

Arita, located in the Saga Prefecture of Japan, is renowned as the birthplace of Japanese porcelain. The history of Arita pottery dates back to the early 17th century when Korean potter Yi Sam-pyeong, also known as Ri Sanpei, discovered high-quality kaolin clay in the region. This discovery revolutionized the ceramics industry, leading to the establishment of Arita as a prominent center for porcelain production.

The kilns in Arita began producing exquisite porcelain wares, including the iconic blue and white Imari porcelain, which gained international acclaim. Over the centuries, Arita continued to evolve its pottery tradition, blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. Today, Arita remains a hub for ceramic artistry, attracting both traditional artisans and contemporary designers. The legacy of Ri Sanpei and the pioneering efforts in Arita has left an indelible mark on the world of Japanese ceramics, symbolizing a harmonious blend of tradition, innovation, and artistic expression.
